DUO initial rollout to students
Area
Information Security Office
Description
The Information Security Office in conjunction with the Systems Team is expanding multi-factor authentication (MFA) to students. This feature is in place currently for all faculty and staff on critical software and services utilized throughout the university. This expanded addition of MFA for students requires an additional authentication mechanism for a student utilizing most software and services through the university. Each additional factor in authentication is intended to increase the assurance that an entity involved in some kind of communication or requesting access to some system is who, or what, they are declared to be. With some ransomware being distributed through stolen credentials, adding MFA creates a layered defense and makes it more difficult for a bad actor who may have obtained credentials to not be able to access university software and services. Project being moved back due to re-prioritization of projects based on the area's COVID-19 response and prioritization of more critical projects during this time.

SAP Business Client 7.0 Configuration and Rollout
Area
Technology Resources
Description
SAP Business Client is a desktop user interface client that presents a single entry point to different SAP business applications and technologies. It is a high-fidelity shell for the Microsoft Windows platform aimed at a more efficient, intuitive, and complete user experience over different UI technologies, such as Web Dynpro ABAP/FPM, SAP GUI transactions, and SAP Fiori apps. It is the latest desktop version for SAP which has a modern and simple look and feel, and implements easy-to-use, web-browser-like user experience coupled with easy navigation and a focus on content (tabbed browsing). With a tab-based navigation model, users will now be able to work on multiple tabs in parallel. Users can switch between the tabs easily without terminating the sessions; each new tab hosts a new session. A maximum of six (6) sessions are allowed. Users can move a session independently to a second monitor to support comparison or analysis of various transactions. If users are working with many applications in one window at the same time, they can get an overview of all the tabs in the tab bar. The Client offers settings that include high contrast themes, a zoom feature and keyboard shortcuts for accessibility. In addition, it provides one single point of entry for SAPGUI and Fiori Launchpad. This change for Texas State is driven by the end of life for SAP Business Client 6.5.
